DJOKOVIC THROUGH FIRST ROUND

Novak Djokovic has defeated Michael Berrer of Germany in the first round of the China Open. Djokovic won the match by 6-1, 6-7(3), 6-2. The Serbian superstar knocked Berrer out of the tournament in almost 2 hours. This was the second match between these two players and Djokovic is yet to lose any match against Berrer.

Even after winning the match, Djokovic didn’t look happy with his performance. In the post match interview, he said, “I made a lot of mistakes in the match and it was not one of my best performances. I should have played much better than this.”

“Berrer played well in the second set and especially in the tie breaker, he just nailed it. I was disappointed after losing the second set, but, I played with a cool mind in the final set and pulled it off.”

Djokovic was on fire in the opening set of the match.  He broke Berrer’s service twice and won the first set easily by 6-1. But, in the second set, Djokovic wasn’t able to pounce on the opportunities that he got. The Serbian player got three breakpoints, but, he didn’t latch on any of them. There was not even a single breakthrough in the second set and the set went into the tie breaker. In the tie breaker, Djokovic was outplayed by Berrer. The German player won the tie breaker comfortably and came back into the match.

But, in the third set, Berrer played some ordinary shots. Djokovic got a breakthrough in the second game and the scorecard was saying 3-0 in the favour of Djokovic at the end of the third game. The next four games went with the serve. Berrer badly needed a breakthrough in the eighth game, but, he got panicked and Djokovic got another breakpoint. Djokovic was not going to miss that opportunity. He took advantage of that breakpoint and finished the match.

In the second round, Djokovic will take on Carlos Berlocq of Argentina.
